The original citation comes from Tim Shorrock's Spies For Hire, and provides details on CSIS's Iraq privatization conference.

While not a neocon outfit, CSIS is, in my opinion, representative of what I'd call "liberal imperialism," that is, a think-tank that while superficially decrying the Bushist invasion and occupation of Iraq, did so for purely tactical reasons, not enough troops, no exit strategy, etc.

Chock-a-block with Democratic and Republican party national security insiders such as Sam Nunn, Henry Kissinger, Richard Armitage, Zbigniew Brzezinski, William Perry, CSIS represents the "rational," though no less interventionist wing of the state.

Consider the current mania over Iran's alleged nuclear weapons program and the resurrection of various calls to "punish" Iran. Glenn Greenwald has a pretty good send-up in Salon.

CSIS is not a major focus of my investigations, which if you read my blog with any frequency, concern the secretive nature of the national security state, the nexus of corporate looters and moves towards creating a panoptic society to facilitate said corporate looting.

Sorry if I don't have more info on CSIS, and sorry again, for my tardiness!Antifascisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05421707682211445550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831516114336983238.post-70517429949181206252009-09-15T15:57:31.277-07:002009-09-15T15:57:31.277-07:00Sorry if you've already seen this, but I poste...Sorry if you've already seen this, but I posted this recently on an entry you did in June and was wondering if you could respond:

Hey, I'm interested in finding out more about CSIS. Is there anywhere you can point me to learn more?

Also, you made two very interesting claims:

“CSIS was a major behind-the-scenes force urging the 2003 U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq”

“The closed-door event was held in the CSIS conference room and outlined the Bush regime's plans for Iraq's economic make-over--one that would sell-off state assets "in a way very conducive to foreign investment."

I was wondering if you could provide me sources.

In other news, CSIS is sponsoring this year's college debate topic. The topic paper was written by two former college debaters who are now interns at CSIS.

One of the selling points of the topic paper was that it would train debaters in the sort of research that is in highest demand by the Department of Defense (page 8):

http://www.usctrojandebate.com/Nuclear_Weapons_Topic_Paper.pdf

Darwin BondGraham has a pretty insightful entry on his blog about the precise trajectory of thought the topic is encouraging:

http://darwinbondgraham.blogspot.com/2009/09/anti-nuclear-imperialism-new-face-of.html

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on all of this, as well as get those cites for the claims about CSIS pushing the invasion of Iraq and hosting the selling off meeting.

It doesn't seem too far-fetched to me. George Argyros, for example, who is on their board of trustees apparently "Forg[ed] a close alliance with King Juan Carlos and former President Jose Maria Aznar that resulted in Spain's support and participation in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom."

But the more proof the better.Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05857249571506848223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831516114336983238.post-66424921873374598412009-09-14T18:47:10.548-07:002009-09-14T18:47:10.548-07:00Unfortunately, I did hear of the ruling by Judge S...Unfortunately, I did hear of the ruling by Judge Silberman (a Reagan appointee) and Judge Garland ( a Bush II pick) squashing CCR and ACLU's Abu Ghraib lawsuit letting CACI off the hook. Once we advocate for heightened state intervention, even for despicable media outlets such as Fox News, we open a proverbial can of worms and find ourselves the recipients of the tender ministrations of censors and jailers.Antifascisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05421707682211445550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831516114336983238.post-80115382078976125392009-09-12T11:14:51.724-07:002009-09-12T11:14:51.724-07:00Yes, we know who the targets of these efforts are....Yes, we know who the targets of these efforts are. But frankly, it would be great to see it turned on those who desperately need it. I'd love to see Fox News declared a terrorist organization. They are openly and actively promoting radicalism of "US-radicalized" individuals.theBhchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14822148672764530941noreply@blogger.com
